BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA -- Chokwang Paint (CEO Yang Sung-ah) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KOMSCO (CEO Sung Chang-hoon) to foster joint development of advanced industrial coating compositions. The signing ceremony took place at KOMSCO’s Technology Research Institute in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, on August 21.
The MOU aims to pursue joint research that integrates KOMSCO’s proprietary photonic crystal technology with Chokwang Paint’s specialized application expertise. The ceremony was attended by senior executives, including Lee No-el, Managing Director of Chokwang Paint, and Lee Jong-sun, KOMSCO’s CTO (Chief Technology Officer).
KOMSCO’s photonic crystal technology is an advanced optical technology that manipulates nanoparticle structures to control light, enabling structural coloration without the use of pigments or dyes. Under the agreement, they will actively collaborate on the development and advancement of thermal and photocurable structural color compositions, research into eco-friendly colorant applications, and the pursuit of new business opportunities leveraging existing technologies.
Lee No-el, Managing Director of Chokwang Paint, said, “Over the past three years, the two companies have made meaningful progress through joint R&D efforts, beginning with special inks for security printing. As we expand into the chemical materials market, our collaboration with KOMSCO serves as a model of how strategic partnerships can deliver tangible results. Lee Jong-sun, KOMSCO’s CTO (Chief Technology Officer), added, “We hope that expanded cooperation in anti-counterfeiting R&D will become a new growth driver for next-generation anti-counterfeiting technologies.”
