Vestas secures 43.4 MW repowering order in South Korea with EnVentus turbines

SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--Vestas has secured a 43.4 MW order for the Youngduk Wind Power Repowering Phase 1 (YOWIP Repowering Ph.1) project in South Korea. This is Vestas’ second repowering project in this country, following the GAWIP Repowering project commenced last year.

The order was placed by the project owner, Youngduk Wind Power, with Kolon Global acting as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner. It includes the supply and supervision of seven V162-6.2 MW EnVentus turbines and a 20-year Active Output Management (AOM 5000) service agreement to ensure optimised performance and long-term energy production. Turbine delivery is planned for the third quarter of 2026, with commissioning scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027.

“We are thrilled to partner with Youngduk Wind Power on this landmark repowering project, which represents a significant step forward for South Korea's renewable energy transition,” said Purvin Patel, President of Vestas Asia Pacific. “By replacing older turbines with our advanced EnVentus technology, we are not only boosting capacity and efficiency but also demonstrating how existing wind projects can be modernised to deliver more clean energy from the same footprint. ”

Mr. Yong-Hoon Kim, CEO of Revent Energy - the strategic investor in Youngduk Wind Power, stated, “We are committed to expanding our current 100MW of operational onshore wind assets to 250MW through phased repowering. We also plan to secure an additional 300MW of new capacity, targeting a total of 550MW by 2029. The Youngduk Wind Power Repowering Phase 1 is the first of these projects and a crucial cornerstone of our plan. Our partnership with Vestas gives us confidence in a successful and timely completion, as well as stable and long-term operation.”

The project highlights the growing trend of wind repowering, replacing older turbines with newer, larger, and more efficient models. This will substantially increase the site's capacity and energy output while making optimal use of existing land and grid infrastructure, minimizing environmental impact and supporting national carbon reduction strategies.

The V162-6.2 MW turbine is part of Vestas' EnVentus platform, which brings next-generation technology to the market through modularity. The platform is designed to deliver higher energy production, reduced variability in cost of energy, and greater flexibility to meet customer and market-specific needs.

With this order in South Korea, Vestas continues to strengthen its leadership in the region's renewable energy transition, offering a full lifecycle of solutions.
